George Seligman MBE: Celebrating 14 Years of Leadership at Wessex Rivers Trust
Wessex Rivers Trust is delighted to congratulate George Seligman on being awarded an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours in recognition of his services to the environment, education and the community.
The honour comes as George steps down after fourteen years as Chair of Trustees, having led the Trust since 2012. While he is handing over the role of Chair, we are delighted that he will continue to serve on the Board as a Trustee.
George first became a Trustee of Wessex Rivers Trust in 2012 and was appointed Chair later that year. Since then, he has provided thoughtful leadership, sound judgement and unwavering support as the Trust has grown in ambition, reach and impact, helping to guide projects that have restored rivers, improved habitats and connected more people with the natural world.
Before retiring in 2012, George enjoyed a distinguished 38-year career as a corporate lawyer with Slaughter and May. Alongside farming in the Test Valley, he has devoted his time to a wide range of charitable and environmental causes. He is also a Trustee of Countryside Learning, the Wild Trout Trust and the Wheelyboat Trust, reflecting his longstanding commitment to education, conservation and improving access to nature.
George's commitment to Wessex Rivers Trust extends beyond the boardroom. In 2025, he completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in support of the Trust, raising funds for our work while inspiring supporters across our catchments with his determination and enthusiasm.
Dave Rumble, CEO Wessex Rivers Trust:
"It has been a privilege working with George, whose sharp insights and generous support have been invaluable to me in my role. George's commitment, expressed in many different ways, has been a critical ingredient in the Trust's growth and many successes since our early days."
Everyone at Wessex Rivers Trust congratulates George on this well-deserved honour and thanks him for his outstanding leadership over the past fourteen years. We are delighted that he will continue to support the Trust as a Trustee, and we look forward to working with him in this next chapter
