Climbing for Chalk Streams: Our Chair Takes on the Three Peaks Challenge
At Wessex Rivers Trust, our mission is simple: healthy rivers for wildlife and people. But behind every river restoration project, and every education session there are people working tirelessly to make it happen. Today, we want to shine a light on one of those people - our long-standing Chair of Trustees, George Seligman.
This July, George will attempt the formidable Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales - Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon - all to raise vital funds for our work.
Whether it takes him 24 hours or a week, George is putting his legs on the line to support the chalk streams that run through the heart of Wessex. His JustGiving page is now live, and we’d be honoured if you would consider supporting him:
Thirteen years ago, George became Chair of Wessex Rivers Trust when we were little more than an ambitious idea with a shoestring budget. Since then, we’ve evolved into a thriving environmental charity with a powerful voice for the rivers of Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight.
Thanks in no small part to George’s commitment, we now deliver vital river restoration and environmental education across the region - from improving habitats on iconic chalk streams like the Test and Itchen, to inspiring the next generation through hands-on learning at the river’s edge, our work continues to protect and celebrate the rivers that define Wessex.
Help Us Celebrate George’s Final Chapter.
As George prepares to step down as Chair later this year, he’s chosen to mark the end of his tenure not with a quiet farewell, but with a physical and symbolic challenge - one that speaks to the grit, determination and love for rivers that have defined his time with us.
We are incredibly grateful for all that George has done, and continues to do, for Wessex Rivers Trust.
Please help him meet his fundraising target and support our vital work by donating to his Three Peaks Challenge. Every pound raised will go towards building resilient rivers for future generations.
Thank you, George. And best of luck - we’ll be cheering you on every step (and summit) of the way.
