Did you know?

• Its scientific name is Cordulegaster boltonii.
• It is the longest British dragonfly, with the females reaching 84mm long and the males only reaching 74mm long.
• You can easily identify them by the black and gold rings along their body and their bright green eyes meeting in the centre of the head.
• They tend to live along acidic rivers and streams where they breed, but can be found up in heathlands.
• They feed on insects such as wasps, bees, beetles, damselflies, and even other dragonflies!
• The dragonfly larvae can live in the sediment in streams for up to five years before emerging out of the water as adults.
• Climate change is threating their habitat due to increasing temperatures and changes to rainfall patterns.
