Did you know?

• Water quality is affected by lots of factors. Some that are natural, such as, geology and gradient, however, there are some human effects, such as, land use.
• Some farms use lots of fertilizers which make its way to the river. This causes algal blooms, which decrease the oxygen content, meaning the fish can’t survive.
• Urban areas also effect the water quality as pollutants can travel along the roads, and not infiltrate into the ground. Without this infiltration, pollutants are not filtered out of the water.
• Only 14% of England’s rivers are in “good health”, many, which are affected by poor water quality.
• Water quality in the rivers, also effects the water quality of the oceans.
