• Invertebrates are creatures that don’t have a backbone.
• There are loads of different types of invertebrates that live in the river from Caddisflies to Shrimps to Molluscs.
• They are a vital food source for many fish.
• Many invertebrates start their life in the river, in their juvenile stage, and then will emerge out of the river for their adult stage e.g. Damselflies or Mayflies.
• You can look at the invertebrate population in a river to work out how healthy the river is. For example, Stonefly only live in really clean, oxygen rich water.
