Did you know?

• Flooding can be a big issue, especially if the water makes its way into your house, but it can also be useful, depositing nutrients back onto the land.
• Many areas naturally flood, such as wetlands. They provide really great habitats and hold loads of biodiversity.
• However, with climate change flooding is becoming more intense and frequent, which can lead to water causing threats to life and infrastructure.
• Urban growth has also affected flooding – if you think about your local area, a lot of the land is impermeable (there is lots of infrastructure such as roads or buildings meaning the water can’t soak down into the ground) this means that the water can travel quickly along the ground reaching the river very fast.
• If all the water gets to the river at once the river can’t hold it all meaning it bursts its banks.
