Point 4 - Fords & Fishes

Directions:

Continue to walk along the path with the river on your right.

Did you know?

- This concrete path across the river is called a Ford. It allows farmers to access their land on the other side of the river.
- Sadly, The River Stour has lots of man-made barriers, like this, which can stop fish movements up and down the watercourse.
- Salmon are famous for their incredible migration journey. You can find Salmon in the River Stour and Wessex Rivers Trust are working hard to reduce the number of barriers, making it easier for Salmon to spawn upstream.
- Watch our Salmon Film to find out more.
- Coarse fish, like Roach and Bream enjoy the deep pools the Stour offers and can often be seen sunbathing on hot summer days.
- Watch our video of Dace and Roach underwater.
