Continue to walk along the path with the river on your right.
Did you know?
- The strip of tall plants at the edge of the river is called “Marginal vegetation”. This is a perfect habitat for wildlife such as birds, invertebrates and mammals.
- Common reed, Branched bur reed, Yellow water lilies, Water forget me not and Tufted vetch are all types of marginal vegetation but look completely different from each other.
- Can spot the differences between the plants in front of you. Do any have flowers? How tall are they? Do they float in the water? What shape are their leaves?
- Some plants are classed as “alien species” which do not naturally belong in this country. They come over by accident on boats or even from people’s gardens. They spread really quickly and take over areas as they do not have any natural control measures.
